The Aladja Grammar School in Delta State is gearing up for a grand celebration to mark its 50th anniversary, scheduled from September 27 to 29, 2024. The event will feature notable alumni, including Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Hon. Francis Waive, representing the Udu, Ughelli South, and Ughelli North Federal Constituency.
Mr. Andrew Okrakene, President of the Aladja Grammar School Old Students Association, announced the celebration during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Warri Correspondents Chapel. He highlighted the school’s significance as the first secondary institution in Udu Local Government Area, founded in September 1974.
“This celebration is a moment of reflection, appreciation, and anticipation as we honor five decades of academic excellence, character building, and community engagement at Aladja Grammar School,” Okrakene stated. He noted the school’s impressive history and its contributions to society through the education of countless students.
Dr. Henry Sakpra, Chairman of the Delta State Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency and head of the event’s organizing committee, outlined the planned activities. The celebration will begin with an interactive session between alumni and current students, followed by a commemorative road walk.
Day two will feature lectures from distinguished speakers, a luncheon, and an awards presentation to raise funds for the school’s development. The event will conclude with a thanksgiving service at Holy Trinity African Church, Aladja.
Sakpra emphasized that this jubilee is not merely a reunion but a commitment to the future of education in the community. He underscored the school’s role in producing influential alumni, including governors, federal legislators, and successful entrepreneurs, expressing hope for a strong alumni network dedicated to supporting future generations.
As the school approaches this milestone, the alumni community looks forward to celebrating their shared history and reaffirming their dedication to the institution’s continued success.
