The former president of Nigeria ,Dr Goodluck Johnathan yesterday in Abuja ended months of media speculation about fresh presidential bid in 2027.
He categorically said that as a member of West African Elders Forum , he was ill qualified to participate in partisan politics.
Jonathan speaking at the 10th anniversary of the Goodluck Johnathan Foundation stated he would not contest 2027 presidential election, adding that most of his political associates would be disappointed by his stance.
Jonathan explained :’ The condition to be a member of the WAEF is that you must be a former president within the sub-region and a former president of ECOWAS. One clear condition is that you will no longer be an active politician, and that is why I am disappointing most of my political associates. They expect me to play an active role in politics, but before I do, I must first resign from WAEF ‘
Those who were positioning the former president as the best alternative to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would have to shop for another candidate.
