About five hundred thousand Deltans may not to participate in next year general elections because of inability of Independent National Electoral Commission to give them their voters cards.
The Pond News investigation revealed that INEC officials in local government areas were not on ground to give registrants their voters cards.
The situation is compounded with floods with about seventeen INEC local council offices submerged by floods.
However ,speaking to reporters in Asaba within the week, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rev. Monday Udoh said that 300,000 registrants were yet to collect their PVC since 2019.
Udoh did not give reasons for non collection of the PVC but The Pond news understands that it may be connected with unfriendly attitude of INEC officials and lack of publicity given to the importance of the exercise.
Some Deltans who spoke to the reporter blamed INEC for their inability to get PVC.
Mr Joe Okedi narrated how he went to INEC office in Ozoro,Isoko North LGA many times without getting his voters card.
Okedi said that either INEC officials were not around or his voters card could not be found.
He also said that his wife who registered in Warri was yet to get her voter’s card.
The same story is told in Aboh, the headquarters of Ndokwa East LGA where voters could not get their voter’s card.
Speaking to The Pond news, Mr Akpor Okaroh said he travelled to Aboh several times but could not get his voters card.
The situation is worse now as the INEC office is submerged by floods.
Residents of Asaba Core Area II complained of their inability to get their PVC and therefore made passionate appeal to INEC to correct this defects so that majority of Deltans are not defranchised for not fault of theirs.
